Religion
This week we review what Lent is about and start to discuss what Holy Week is. Our focus will be on Palm Sunday.
Miss Sheehan will be in on Mondays to do a Lenten retreat.
(Please note: Religion books are used for 2 years. Therefore, children are not writing in their books and most activities will be done in a notebook.)

Reading
Students will learn about long a words with -ay, -eigh,and -ange. We will also review adverbs.
Our reading will start our new fictional book clubs.
For writing, students will review the different parts of speech - nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We will use this knowledge to help us plan and draft a descriptive writing piece about a person. At the end of the week, we will practice revising our drafts.

Math
This week we continue Module 6, where we will begin with a quiz about the concepts we have learned so far, then we will use square tiles to compose a rectangle, and relate to the array model; use math drawings to compose a rectangle with square tiles; and use square tiles to decompose a rectangle. (Module 6, Lesson 10 - 13)

Before almost every class begins, students will participate in some sort of fluency activity. Therefore, you may see a paper come home called a Sprint every once in a while. A sprint has an A side and a B side. Students are timed for one minute to complete as many problems as possible. Then we stop and go over the answers together. (Students check their own paper.) Next, we repeat the activity on the second side. If a student shows improvement on side B, they are demonstrating fluency!

Social Studies
Students will now think of their own community and how we are affected by land forms. Then we will compare our community to one of the communities they researched with their groups last week. Finally, students will learn how man-made features have positive and negative effects on our community.
science
We will continue our unit about Space. Students will discover the reason we have seasons. They will see a video clip and physically act out the Earth's tilt for different seasons. Students will also discover what constellations are and model constellations using paper and stickers.
